This is the West of Ireland’s most complete day tour from Galway — combining two of Ireland’s greatest natural wonders into a single unforgettable day. Most visitors have to choose between the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands. On this tour, you get both — and you see the Cliffs the way very few people ever do, from the Atlantic Ocean itself.
Departing Galway city each morning, your luxury midi-coach and expert guide take you on a fully looped route that never retraces its steps. You’ll cruise beneath the 700-foot face of the Cliffs of Moher on a dedicated sightseeing boat, spend the afternoon on the remote and deeply Irish island of Inis Oírr, then journey home through the extraordinary limestone landscape of the Burren and the fishing village of Doolin in County Clare. Three iconic West of Ireland experiences. One day. One ticket.
What makes this tour truly special is the boat. The Cliffs of Moher are breathtaking from the clifftop — but from sea level, with the Atlantic swell beneath you and 700 feet of ancient rock rising straight overhead, they’re something else entirely. It’s a perspective that the vast majority of visitors to Ireland never get, and it’s the highlight of the day for most of our guests.
(If you’re running short on time, have a look at our Galway to Cliffs of Moher Half-Day Express tour instead.)
Your Cliffs of Moher and Aran Islands tour from Galway takes in some of the most iconic scenery on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, with something new to look at every hour of the day. Key highlights along the route include Salthill, the open Atlantic, the Cliffs of Moher from the sea, Inis Oírr village, the Plassey Shipwreck, Doolin Pier, Dunguaire Castle Tower, Ballyvaughan, the Blackhead Lighthouse, and the sweeping limestone plateau of the Burren.
We will take the scenic route underneath the Cliffs of Moher with an exceptional sightseeing cruise. This jaw-dropping experience truly puts the Cliffs of Moher into perspective. Prepare to feel tiny!
Length: 60 minutes
*Please note that the ferry crossings and Cliffs of Moher cruise from Galway are both weather dependent and as such the tour route is subject to change. On rare occasions, only once or twice a year, the advertised route and/or timings at stops may have to be altered without notice.*
Upon arriving on Inis Oírr, you’ll be greeted by golden sandy beaches, turquoise water, and maybe even the island’s resident dolphin, Dusty! This tranquil collection of fishing villages is also home to a burial mound dating back to 1,500 BC, a medieval church ruin buried half in the sand, and a three-storey tower built within a Stone Age fort.
Along the shore, you’ll encounter a shipwreck from 1960, breathtaking views of Connemara and the Burren, and one of Ireland’s most beautiful beaches. Whichever path you take on the island, you’ll be sure to stumble upon history, traditions, and a good cup of tea.
Length: approximately 2.5-3 hours
Few places in Ireland stop people in their tracks quite like the Burren. This vast plateau of exposed limestone — stretching across north County Clare from the Atlantic coast to the inland hills — looks, at first glance, like the surface of the moon. Look closer, and it’s teeming with life.
The Burren is home to an extraordinary mix of Arctic, Mediterranean, and Alpine wildflowers that somehow thrive together in the cracks and fissures of the rock — a botanical phenomenon found nowhere else in Europe. Beneath the surface, an intricate network of caves and underground rivers runs through the limestone. Above ground, ancient portal tombs, ring forts, and megalithic monuments dot the landscape, some dating back over 5,000 years.
On the return leg of your tour, you’ll travel through the heart of this remarkable region, taking in the coastal road with views out over Galway Bay, the Blackhead Lighthouse perched on the edge of the headland, and the quiet village of Ballyvaughan nestled at the foot of the hills. It’s a fittingly dramatic end to a day that has already taken you from sea level at the Cliffs of Moher to the beaches of the Aran Islands — and now across one of the strangest and most beautiful corners of the Irish landscape.
