A weekend in Galway for Cork Students

Want to get away from studying for a weekend? Looking to explore Galway? See the Cliffs of Moher, Burren, Connemara, Kylemore Abbey, and Galway City! Spend the weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) in the Medieval city of Galway and experience it’s great nightlife.

This bundle includes transportation from Cork to Galway, a Cliffs of Moher and Burren Day Tour, a Connemara Day Tour and 2-nights accommodation in a Galway city centre hostel. Following each excursion, you’ll return to Galway. You’ll have the evening to explore Galway on your own, of course we’ll share our favourite suggestions for dinner or traditional Irish music- just ask! You’ll return to Cork on Sunday evening, just in time to get ready for Monday morning classes.

This tour departs every Friday evening and returns Sunday evening.

Friday Evening

Depart Cork via Citylink

Relax and travel in comfort as you depart Cork via Citylink’s Service to Galway (this includes free wifi and toilets). You have a weekend full of adventure ahead of you! Choose from 2 convenient times:

  • Depart Cork at 5:00pm – arrive to Galway at 7:50pm
  • Depart Cork at 7:00pm – arrive to Galway at 9:50pm
Check in to centre city hostel upon arrival



Saturday

Connemara Day Tour

Departs from Galway at 10:00am – Check-in to Galway coach station at 9:45am

Experience the majestic landscapes of Connemara. From the rugged Twelve Pins Mountains to the glassy lakes and bogland, this region is absolutely breathtaking! Spend 2 hours exploring the enchanting Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Gardens before heading back to Galway for the evening.

  • Leenane Village: A small mountain-side town bursting with Irish charm
  • Killary Fjord: Ireland’s only fjord serves the natural border between counties Galway and Mayo.
  • Kylemore Abbey: Extravagantly placed on a lake in the midst of the mountains, this 19th century abbey has was originally built by Mitchell Henry as a gift to his wife, Margaret. Today, visitors can explore the Abbey (now owned and run by Benedictine nuns), miniature Gothic Church and award winning-walled Victorian walled gardens.
  • An Spidéal: A picturesque Gaeltacht (Irish Speaking) village. It is home to many traditional thatched roof homes, scenic coastlines and beautiful beaches.
Returns to Galway approximately 5:30pm




Sunday

Cliffs of Moher Day Tour

Departs from Galway at 10:00am – Check-in to Galway coach station at 9:45am

Head south to through the windswept, limestone region known as the Burren. Explore the dramatic underworld of the Burren at the Aillwee Cave. You’ll spend 1.5 hours at the awe-inspiring Cliffs of Moher before heading back to Galway along the Wild Atlantic Way.

  • Dunguaire Castle (Kinvara): Standing tall watching over Galway Bay, this iconic 1520’s castle was the Royal Palace of Guaire Aidhne, King of Connacht.
  • Aillwee Cave and Birds of Prey Exhibition: Trek through Ireland’s natural, showcase cave. Not feeling adventurous? A cafe is located on the grounds showcasing a menu of local food and coffee options.
  • Cliffs of Moher & Visitor Centre: FREE ADMISSION! Encounter a moment of magic as you stand atop these awe-inspiring, rigid cliffs with edges dropping into the untamed Atlantic Ocean. Stretching 8km (5 miles) along the Atlantic coast of County Clare, The Cliffs of Moher stand 700 feet tall.
  • Doolin: A charming seaside village along the Wild Atlantic Way claimed as Ireland’s traditional music capital. Have lunch while exploring the strip of pubs, Irish crafts and shops.
Returns to Galway approximately 5:30pm

Depart Galway at 7:30pm – arrive to Cork at 10:20pm
